Brigitte Alepin is a Canadian tax expert. Ranked in February 2016 among the 50 most influential tax experts in the world by the International Tax Review, Brigitte Alepin practices taxation mainly for the benefit of small and medium-sized companies and their leading shareholders and she acts as an expert in tax policies and public finances on behalf of governments and major Canadian and international organizations.
Brigitte Alepin was first known in Canada for her book Ces riches qui ne paient pas d’impot and her many interventions in canadian media.
In 2010, she wrote La Crise fiscale qui vient. This book inspired the film Le Prix à payer | The price we pay, directed by Harold Crooks and coscenarized by Harold Crooks and Brigitte Alepin. The price to pay is on the TOP10 of the TIFF2014 and reviews about the movie were laudatory. Brigitte Alepin won a Prix Gémaux Award for best scenario for a documentary for The Price we Pay with Harold Crooks.
To initiate the study of the phenomenon of tax havens, the Committee on Public Finance of the National Assembly of Quebec met Brigitte Alepin on May 21, 2015. The Commission on the revision of Quebec taxation of the Government of Quebec entrusted the mandate ” The International Tax Guidelines “to Brigitte Alepin in the fall of 2014. The Quebec Health Commissioner entrusted Brigitte Alepin and Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton with the task of estimating health costs in Quebec in 2030 , given the aging of the population and the increase in chronic diseases. In preparation for the 15th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (Post-Kyoto in Copenhagen), Brigitte Alepin has been mandated by CPA Canada and a group of Canadian companies to examine how to better use taxation to help Canada to take the green turn. Hes findings were presented internationally, in various media and to political representatives.
From 2013 to 2014, Brigitte Alepin acted as exclusive special advisor for CBC-SRC on the “major media events” in relation with her expertise. Brigitte Alepin implemented and directed the CPA Magazine’s FISCALITÉ-PME column from 2007 to 2012. She also implemented and wrote the first tax policy in Le Journal de Montréal “Impôt pour tous” in 2004-2005. She is regularly sollicited by politicians, political parties and media outlets. She also acts as an expert witness on many committees of the House of Commons and the Canadian Senate.
Brigitte studied at Harvard University where she obtained a master’s degree in public administration, concentration micro-economy. During her studies at Harvard, Brigitte Alepin worked on the research contract The adaptation of our tax systems to globalization, some conclusions drawn from this mandate were published in the magazine L’Actualité.
She obtained a master’s degree in taxation in 1990 at the Université de Sherbrooke. Recipient of the Canada Research Fund Scholarship, her essay suggested the creation of the Home Buyers’ Plan (HBP).
Brigitte also graduated at the UQAM where she got her bachelor degree in accounting.
